Protect Yourself From Winter
Web published 10/1/2002

Outdoors and in, winter can be unkind to the skin. Along with remembering to drink lots of water, here are the most effective ways to keep your body from drying out. Moisten the Air. Keep bowls of water near heating vents or use a humidifier. Clean water containers and humidifiers regularly to avoid bacterial and fungal growth. Cleanse with Care. Water, particularly hot water, tends to wash away the natural oils that help keep moisture in the skin from evaporating. Short, lukewarm showers cause less moisture loss than lengthy hot baths or showers. Moisturize Frequently. For extra protection, use moisturizing products. Protect Your Lips. Lip balm, petroleum jelly or lipstick can help keep lips moist.
